What can parents do?

 

  • Encourage our child to get involved in school and community experiences to gain new skills.

  • Help your child make decisions based on interests and abilities.

  • Be aware of the general trends in the job market.

  • Call your school principal or guidance office and ask if there's a School-To -work Partnership in place.

  • Volunteer to speak to children about your won careers and the education requirements.

  • Participate annually in developing and updating your child's career portfolio with the school advisor.

The Career Zone is a pc-based career exploration program developed for students by the New York State Department of Labor/ This easy to use system allows students to refine their career search by incorporating the results of two recently developed tools. in just minutes, occupational wages and job outlooks can be determined and over 1,000 occupations from the O NET database can be explored.
